Stopped by Milano’s in Eastie for lunch. Shoutout to Jack for the great camera skills, not. I haven’t been to Milano’s since before Covid. They’re a staple to Eastie though. Even to Beachmont or Winthrop. It’s right in that square that surrounds them all. They’ve been serving the community for almost 40 years. A real neighborhood joint that is loved by (probably) all. I wouldn’t say I love it, not like I love my neighborhood deli, aka New Deal. But I do enjoy Milano’s & their staff. The pizza was eh today. Not the freshest slice but it usually is pretty good. Same with the arancini. Their arancini beats New Deals by a long shot but it was off today. Super dry inside with no meat, peas or cheese in sight. I like my arancini with no sauce, that’s the traditional way to do it. The subs were good though, better than the pizza & cini. Very good curlets, crispy & tender. Great bread too. Come by Milano’s sometime, or revisit like I just did. Be sure to let them know who sent you. The Blue Ox (@theblueoxlynn ).. home of the Sin Burger, aka my favorite burger (arguably). I took Big Frank with me so he can finally give it a try. The Ox is also under new ownership (but the same loveable staff is still there which makes me happy) & they’re looking to shake things up. Which means… NEW MENU ITEMS. Right now they’re still rocking with the old menu & offering new specials. Like the Cold Smoked Filet. They have a spring menu coming out any day now & a patio that will be open soon as well. My every visit order consists of their Ox Wings & Tuna Tartare for my apps, both are amazing. And the Sin Burger for my main. Today we tried a few new things. Including the chicken & chorizo quesadilla. They’re available on the Ox Bites menu. A menu that’s available from 4-5pm, Sunday - Thursday. Cheap bar eats. A great deal that the Ox has been doing for a while now. We also tried their smoked salmon, available on the spring menu. And that cold smoked filet mignon. That’s available right now! That thing was phenomenal!! Cold Smoking is a long process. The Ox is known for their cooking techniques. The Sin Burger is also cooked in a unique way. Big Frank loved the burger but he’s not a Swiss guy and that was throwing him off. Always a great visit to the Ox though. I come by here every couple of months for my burger fix. I suggest you do the same! Linked up with my buddy @official_johnny_bartolomeo for a breakfast at @mikescitydiner in the South End. Neither one of us been here before but I was in the mood for breakfast and a meal with Johnny was overdue so I told him to meet me there. Mike’s is a South End staple from what I’ve heard. They’ve been feeding the community since 95 (my birth year!). And we got here pretty late. It was after 12pm & the place was packed with a waitlist still. I’m guessing it’s like that on every Sunday. We got the chicken & waffles, and we got a hungry man with pancakes and a bunch of sides. The chicken & waffle was great. It wasn’t until after that I found out they’re well known for the turkey dinner (and yes, it’s good for breakfast). Next time I’ll have to try that. We got the chance to talk to Jay, the owner of Mike’s City Diner. Very good man. Amazing work ethic too. I convinced him to make an Instagram from Mike’s since he’s never had one. Went to @redwhiteramen the other day on Newbury St for lunch. They’re a vegan ramen joint. The sound of that may scare you away but the looks of it will make you come right back. The ramen was unbelievable!! The flavor was crazy. The broth is plant based. They have 3 locations, 2 in Cali, 1 in Boston. And I can see them opening up more as time goes on. The rest of the world needs to experience ramen like this. I’m a big meat eater so obviously I’m gonna think some beef or pork in there would make it better but wow was it great. The red hot miso was my choice. I like the spice. By the end of that bowl my face was red & I was sweating bullets. But I enjoyed every slurp & bite. Felicia got the garlic miso and that was just as amazing. The rolls were cool but I wasn’t in love. The rice was seasoned but ehhh, I’ll take the real sushi any day. Either way, come by Red White Boneless Ramen in Back Bay, experience something you’ve never experienced before.
